The measuring is carried out by a profiler powered by stepmotors and controlled by EPro.
The carrige is moved horizontally and verticallay by three servo motors. In order to avoid slipping, tooth belts are used for power transmission, hereby ensuring precision.
As measurement transducer a laser mounted in a waterproof house is usually applied. During scanning the distance of the transducer above the model is automatically adjusted on the fly to always obtain the optimal working conditions of the transducer.
The carrige of the first few profilers have been manufactured and assembled at Aalborg University (see example in below picture). The profiler hardware has later been improved and is now manufactured by a third party.
